He said it was the result of an escalation of violence between the 051 and KBS African youth gangs.

“What we do know is the victim was chased down by three males and stabbed and stomped,” he said.

Detective Superintendent Bray said on Friday evening on two separate flights – one from Sydney, one from Melbourne – six men arrived and were collected by gang members and taken to unknown locations.

On Saturday the alleged murderer, together with other gang members from Adelaide walked into the Mantra hotel in Adelaide.

Detective Superintendent Bray said that same group, on Monday morning, assaulted and robbed a man and stole his phone.

At about 1.56am, police received a call from SA Ambulance about two men, one who was unconscious, who had been assaulted and robbed.

At 2am, two rival groups of 15 to 20 people gathered in Sia Furler Lane for “what can best be described as a knife fight”.

Detective Superintendent Bray said at 2.08am, the victim ran from the lane and was stabbed and beaten on North Terrace, in Adelaide’s CBD.

“Two people were actively involved in the murder while a third person stood back and watched,” he said.

“We are yet to determine the role of the third person.”
